WHAT
WE DO

PROGRAMS & PROJECTS

Since 2015, Protect the Children has generated and encouraged many projects providing quality education and care to underserved children. Among these programs, 6 of them are featured below, big and small, that were or are creative opportunities serving diverse communities. Our organization also finances educational programs for low-income students.

Aishworya

Orphanage

Our relationship with Aishworya began in 2008 when we met a Nepalese who was friends with the founder's daughter and had volunteered there for years. The creation of Protect the Children cemented the support we were able to provide over the years and allowed the financing of education on a large scale. Our help took many forms over the years and highly contributed to the enrichment of the lives of about 70 children.

Children of Denali Therapeutics

Bohdanivka
School

In March 2022, Bohdanivka school in Ukraine and its bus were burned down by the Russian army and completely destroyed. The 500 children were relocated to nearby schools in close villages, but the parents had no way to send them to school.

6 teenage volunteers stepped up in Brussels and we helped them raise money to fund the purchase of a second- hand school bus. The bus was delivered in November 2022. This success has led us to consider joining forces with other organizations in Europe to develop a European presence.

Prolific Secondary  School

Willow Oak & Other Elementary Schools

In March 2020, one of our volunteers organized with our help a fundraiser and thus was able to donate 30 Chromebooks  to a 4th-grade classroom at Willow Oak School, in Menlo Park. Each student was able to switch to online learning as schools closed. Our volunteer had previously designed a program to teach French to young Hispanic students, under the guidance of a Stanford University Professor, so she implemented it at Willow Oak School, and taught online the 4th graders of East Palo Alto, which became a pilot project for other schools. We have financed various projects across the Bay Area, such as a 3rd grade library at Bishop Elementary School in Sunnyvale, California.

TV Programs for Seniors

When we heard that the company Denali Therapeutics was looking for ways to support their employees with young children, one of our volunteers stepped up, contacted French teachers in the Bay Area, and gathered a group of brilliant French-speaking high schoolers to offer classes. These online one-on-one free and fun French classes were based on the remodeled curriculum originally developed for Willow Oak School.

We first met Prolific Secondary School's Principal, Resham Sharma, and team during our 2015 trip to Nepal in Katmandu. Our collaboration led to the implementation, by two of our volunteers, of Stanford University's SMILE educational program at the school. 15 tablets were also brought to teach the kids about the use of small electronics, which was challenging in a country that then faced 16 hours of electricity cuts every day!

Teams of adults and teenage volunteers, solicited by Protect the Children, have developed TV programs for Seniors. These programs are designed to enrich their knowledge and expose them to new experiences. Most Seniors do not have access to the internet and suffer from loneliness, so they rely on TV to get entertained. Programs include cooking, yoga, flower- arranging, and chocolate-making classes.
