HIGHLIGHTS ON

AISHWORYA ORPHANAGE

OUR CONTRIBUTION

Protect the Children has supported Aishworya since its creation in 2015 but the relationship had started in 2008. Aishworya was then home to about 50 kids aged 5 to 10, who were orphans or children with parents that were unable to take care of them. Our nonprofit focused on education expenses but extended its efforts to deliver a variety of items the children needed. Our various stays at the Home in Nepal allowed for an evaluation of their needs while cementing our love for them.

Financing education & basic needs

Donating 400 lbs. of clothing,  toiletries & toys

Providing school stationaries and backpacks

The financial help that Protect the Children was able to provide, thanks to our private and corporate donors, has been increasing every year. This covered the expenses related to the education of the 26 older children receiving a high  education in a private bilingual school. Protect the Children paid for their tuition, uniforms, transportation, books, stationery, and lunch for many years, while the youngest children at Aishworya went to a free public school.

Thanks to their trips to Nepal, our volunteers were able to bring a lot of new or gently used clothes (like underwear, gloves, tights and socks, and PJs for all), toys and stationary, to dress up, draw, and have fun.

We were given 50 toothbrushes and tooth pastes to bring over. Our teenagers donated and collected their past dolls, Polly Pockets, Barbie dolls, and their accessories, bears, trains, tracks, cars etc. and thanks to the help of the local community of Nepalese, we were able to get these items safely delivered to the Home, to the amazement and happiness of the children.

Because a good education requires the tools to work diligently, we dedicated every year's funds to guarantee each child would have all the school necessities. These included  pens, pencils, and notebooks. We paid for the basic stationery provided by the school and made sure to bring extra pens, pencils, scissors, glue, drawing pads, coloring books, and more. A volunteer was also able to fit 35 backpacks in their luggage during a trip to Nepal and another brought ten.

Helping with homework, teaching English & watching their education

At every stay at Aishworya, the volunteers dedicated their afternoons to spending time with the kids at school, bringing them a good snack (smoothies were a newfound favorite) and taking the school bus back. At the Home, they helped with homework and taught English. Back home, we stayed in touch with the Principals of both schools and continued to monitor from far the attendance and grades.

Just playing

Because kids are kids, we always thought that it was important to dedicate time and energy to bring to Aishworya crafts, games, like cards, balloons, plush toys, and more. We also made sure to dedicate playing time every night with the children, once the homework was completed. Their favorite craft that we brought was the rainbow looms that our teenager volunteers had gathered through Nextdoor. Boys and girls, adults and children alike spent hours gathering the colorful bands while the little ones were stringing beads. Such a joy to watch their happiness!

Organizing field trips

With the logistical help of the daughter of the founder, we were able to organize a variety of field trips over the course of the years, that opened the eyes and awaken the imagination of our 50 young Nepalese friends. We enjoyed fun visits to the zoo of Kathmandu and the Amusement Park, as well as cultural trips. These included visiting a Hindu temple and the Garden of Eden, a lovely park in the heart of the busy, noisy, and polluted Kathmandu.
